Heroes On Deck is a documentary detailing how over 100 WWII aircraft ended up at the bottom of Lake Michigan just off Chicago's shoreline. In WWII the US Navy trained over 15,000 carrier pilots on two makeshift "flattops," both of which had former lives as side wheel passenger steamers. The pilots landing aircraft atop the USS Wolverine and USS Sable were not always successful, and many aircraft went to the lake's bottom. This story is of the recovery of those "rare warbirds" and the training program created around them.
