Introduced in the early 1930s, J. Gosling soon became recognized as the logo of "The Cradle of Naval Aviation." The designer, Edward J. Collins, received his inspiration while watching ducks land outside his office. Noticing that the ducks landed without minding their form, or how big a splash they made, Collins instantly associated the ducks with flight students.
